Motorized Electric Screens Are Perfect for Cooler Months

The hot, muggy summer months are almost behind us. At times now, you can even feel a touch of coolness in the air. Now that it is October, we have the winter months to look forward to in Florida. The winter season is a beautiful time of the year down here and many people like to enjoy the cooler weather on their lanais. Our motorized electric screens make it easy to transition from an open area to an enclosed, more private area for you and your family to enjoy.

With the cooler months coming, you might want to take some time to inspect your current screens. If they need cleaning or repair, now is the time to do it. If they need replacing, then we highly recommend motorized electric screens. Not only will they be easier to raise and lower, but your friends, family, and neighbors will think highly of the technology. We can’t tell you how many compliments that we get on our own motorized screens in our own homes as well as our customer’s homes.

With the Zika virus spreading through the south Florida area right now, having some type of screening in place is crucial to avoid mosquito bites. Our Super Screen product is tough, won’t tear, and will keep little pesky biting and stinking bugs out of your living spaces.

You may decide, like a lot of Floridians, that once the weather cools a bit to turn off the air conditioner and open up the doors and windows to “air out” the house. It is always a nice option to be able to let fresh air into the home. The cross ventilation moves stale air from the summer out and cleans fresh air inside your home. Having motorized electric screens in place is ideal to fully enjoy your winter months. Call us today to schedule a consultation and learn more about the high-quality screening that we offer.

What are Motorized Electric Screens?

Motorized electric screens are exactly what they sound like. They are screens that are installed on your home that open up electronically. There is no need to manually pull them down or try to push them up into their housing. With the touch of a button, you are able to either open or shut the screening.

Why use motorized electric screens? Here in Florida, there are many nights, especially in the winter, that you can sit on your back porch and enjoy the cool breezes. By having a screen in place, you can enjoy it without bugs pestering you. When you have the screening down, it will keep debris from trees and bushes from blowing into your sitting area. Motorized screens are great for those who have pets as well. It is a way to contain them during those times that you do not want them running free in the back yard. If you like to host gatherings, the screening easily can be drawn down so that any food buffet is not touched by pests.

Are motorized electric screens bulky and an eye sore? No, absolutely not. This type of screening conveniently rolls up into a discreet housing unit that is custom fitted to blend into your home as much as possible. There are even different colors for the housing unit that can blend to your home’s exterior color.

I like the technology of the Super Screen. Can that be used in a motorized electric screening application? Yes, definitely. The Super Screen is a very popular type of screen that has an amazing warranty due to its resistance to tearing and puncturing. This is a perfect screen for those who own animals or are concerned about the high winds during Florida’s many storms.

A Hurricane! Are Your Screens Ready?

This time of year most homeowners focus on Hurricane season and how to protect their property and its contents or added amenities. Windows and doors are the primary focus, however one of the most expensive and time consuming replacement items is your pool cage that you have around and over your pool.

While there is no real way to stop a hurricane from damaging the structure, you can minimize damage by cutting the screen panels and then bearing the cost to replace it after the storm. With no guarantees that the frame will not topple from the winds. With a few new insurance rules since the last wave of hurricanes, enclosures are not a covered item on a standard home owner insurance policy, so make sure you are covered.

Some of us do not have a pool cage at all and we find the summer months to be unbearable to be on our patios in the early evening and beyond.  But that doesn’t mean that you need a pool cage either.

There is a rapidly growing product line commonly referred to as a motorized roll down screen. This is a system that allows you to have a screened in area when you want it and you simply roll it up when it is not desired.  The system has become more affordable over the last few years. The added benefit is that when that Hurricane comes through you simply roll it up into a structural canister and wait for the storm to pass. When your neighbors suffer loss of their cages due to high winds. Then have to wait for a company (Who will be extremely busy) to come out to either repair or replace their structure, you will be able to enjoy you outdoor space immediately. Not expenses or time delay!

So, whether you want to install a screen on an existing unscreened home or need one to replace yours when that cage is damaged look into this alternative. It is another added feature to your outdoor life.

Garage Door Screens Create New Living Spaces

If you are from the northern areas of the United States, you may not be familiar with garage door screens. Since the weather down here in Florida is ideal for an outdoor lifestyle most of the year, keeping the garage door open to keep sunlight and air flowing can be beneficial to homeowners.

A garage screen is a screen that rolls down at the garage door opening. Since houses in Florida are not able to have basements due to the shallow water table, homeowners turn to their garage for additional living space. Some people use the garage as a wood workshop, an art studio, or a “man cave”. Others convert it to a play area for their children, a place to craft or even into a home office. Having a screen in these areas would be beneficial in many ways.

  • Keep Bugs Out! By screening in the garage, bugs can be kept at bay so that you can enjoy the space without becoming a meal to insects. There is no need to cover yourself in bug spray while enjoying time in your garage space with a retractable screen.
  • Air Flow A few seasons of the year, it isn’t terribly hot in Florida. So, many people will open up their windows and doors to air out the house after months of running the air conditioner. With a garage door screen, it allows fresh air to flow through the home easier.
  • Sunlight. Having natural light flow into the garage is ideal if you are working on projects and need additional lighting. If you are hosting a party and watching the big game in your man cave, your party guests will appreciate a nice open space with lots of light to cheer on the team. Also, sunshine can affect moods, so getting a daily dose of it can impact your health in a positive way.
  • Shade. Even with sunlight coming in, the screen provides some shade so you don’t need to concern yourself with sunscreen.
  • Debris. Fallen leaves and outside debris won’t find its way into your garage when you have a garage screen.
  • Safety.  Having a garage screen can increase the safety of children and pets as well as deter thieves. You should always keep an eye on young children and pets, but by having your screen door down, it will be less likely that they can wander off and get lost. At the same time, it can help keep people out. Thieves will think twice about entering your garage to steal your golf clubs if you have a screen in place. It is another obstacle to get through, so they will most likely move on to the next house.

At East Coast Electric Screening, you can coordinate the screen color to the color of your house. This is perfect in that it will add to your home’s appearance and also creates a wonderful function that you can enjoy time and time again. With just the touch of a button, you can have a beautiful garage screen in place for any occasion.

Super Screen vs. Regular Screen

With updated modernized architecture in Florida homes, air flow has been a big consideration.  Windows have gotten bigger, multiple tier sliding glass doors have often been installed, large lanai and patio areas included, Roman arches span upwards making areas feel larger, and double French doors open wide breaking up the space and letting fresh air in.

Up until recently traditional mesh screens comprised of metal wire, fiberglass or other synthetic fibers stretched inside of a wooden or metal frame were the only choice to cover these areas if the home owner wanted to be able to open the house up, especially during buggy seasons.

They do a great job, the problem becomes that over time the screen can get stretched, frayed, pulled, snagged,  may have small holes in it or even rip. At that point they then need to be patched, replaced entirely or rescreened which requires measuring, cutting, a special hand tool and rubberized splining. This replacement technique looks easier than it actually is and can take some time and patience if you opt to do it yourself.

If you choose aluminum or fiberglass screens the biggest issue is that the crimp along the splined edge doesn’t hold because the screen itself is too flexible, which leaves you with lose fitting screens which look sloppy and unprofessional. Galvanized steel is a better choice, giving you a tight fit, but it will still succumb to the elements over time giving your home a more weathered aged look.

The best choice is to update your living space with the addition of SuperScreen. SuperScreen fabric has an extrusion-coated polyester core yarn, which results in vastly superior strength that is 300% stronger than other screen types and extends the life of the product.

Benefits: Superscreen is unlike anything that has previously been on the market.

  1. Homeowners who were finding it necessary to replace their screens every 3-5 years no longer have to do so
  2. Tighter weave, keeping even the tiniest of bugs out
  3. The tensile strength and wind resistance is perfect for use here in Florida as windblown debris just bounces off rather than causing damage
  4. Pets who scratch at the door to go out no longer snag and tear the screen
  5. Mildew resistant so there is never a need to bleach
  6. UV fade resistant
  7. Fire retardant

Increase the Livability of Your Home with Motorized Electric Screens

superscreen

Adding square footage to your home by way of additions can get expensive. What if there was an alternative way to make your homes living areas feel and appear more spacious?

As the weather becomes more mild here during the fall and winter months in Florida many of us turn off our over worked air conditioning units and begin opening windows. Fresh air fills our homes giving us a reprieve from the hot months of being closed off indoors breathing in recirculated air.

Part of the beauty of living here is the incredible weather during otherwise frigid winter months.

One of the best ways to maximize the ability to enjoy that is to visually bring the outdoors in. Opening windows works wonders, but can be limiting. By installing retractable remote control power screens on archways, patios, lanais and French doors as well as your windows you can visually extend the actual living space. Whether its opening the house up when hosting a party allowing for even more guests or working in your garage without feeling cooped up, adding screens create a more breathable and flexible environment.

Summer months are lovely for outdoor lanai picnics or laying out, but often times being bitten by bugs sends us packing (and scratching) back inside. When your home is equipped with motorized screens, with just a press of a button bugs are no longer an issue. You are easily able to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors while still hanging on to the protection of being inside.

Each remote control retractable power screen is constructed with Superscreen material which is puncture resistant, tear resistant, and even fire retardant and guaranteed for a full 10 years. All screens are personally measured and custom fit to your home. When retracted they are low profile and slide right into a slim 4.5” extruded aluminum housing. If designed during new home construction screens can be completely recessed and hidden from site.

Retractable Screens – Sunshine In / Bugs Out

The weather in Florida was meant to be enjoyed – after all, isn’t that why most people choose to live here in the first place? To truly enjoy the Florida lifestyle to its fullest, you need a home or office with large windows and open spaces, so you can enjoy both the stellar views and the ocean breezes at the same time. And while this sounds like a relaxing fantasy straight out of a Florida brochure, homeowners and business owners often find that the reality is far less appealing, and that more often than not, pesky bugs and other annoyances often find their ways into your home along with the warm sunshine and cool breezes.

Fortunately, with an electric retractable screen from East Coast Electric Screening you can truly have the best of both worlds. Our retractable screening products can be sized to fit virtually any opening in your home – windows, French doors, archways, patios and lanais, and even garage doors – and are slim, discreet, and simple for anyone to use. Most importantly, our screens are able to seamlessly integrate and merge your indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing you and your guests to enjoy the Florida weather and scenery, right from the comfort of most any room in your house.

While Florida is affectionately known as the “Sunshine State,” residents know that the weather can quickly turn nasty, especially during the dreaded hurricane season and rainy summer months. East Coast Electric Screening combats these fears with the use of SuperScreen, a powerful technology that in turn creates screens that are mildew resistant, puncture and tear resistant, and fire retardant. And though our screens are virtually indestructible, we still offer our customers added peace of mind by providing a Ten Year Limited Warranty with each and every installation we perform.

Not only do you never have to worry about potential damage to your screen, but you can also feel safer knowing exactly who and what is coming and going from your home. Feel free to open up the house and let the air flow through, without having to worry that your pets or small children are slipping out under your nose and getting into trouble. And in addition to keeping your home open without letting anything out, you can also ensure that no mosquitos, no-see-ums, or small rodents are letting themselves in uninvited at the same time. Your home can stay comfortable and well ventilated while you simply kick back and enjoy it.

If you’d like to make the most out of your Florida lifestyle and maximize your enjoyment of the beautiful weather year round, then contact us today to explore your options with East Coast Electric Screening. We are proud to have had our screens featured on HGTV, and gladly service Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Jupiter, and the surrounding areas of Southeast Florida. Visit East Coast Electric Screening.

The Benefits of Screening for Kids & Pets

Old doors are clunky and sometimes they can even be dangerous. Screen doors and French doors are good in theory, but they can do things like slam on someone’s finger and hurt it, maybe even break it. This could happen to an adult or a child. Children run around and play and they often don’t pay attention to what they’re doing, focusing instead on the game at hand. Adults can get injured, too. We all forget things when we’re running late. Sometimes the door could hit you if you’re not paying attention while you’re frantically running back into your home to retrieve the forgotten item. If it does hit you, it likely won’t result in a serious injury. But accidents can happen. If the door hits a child, it’s probable that they could get injured more severely—because they’re smaller.

French or screen doors could also hurt or injure a pet. If Fido is chasing that tennis ball, he’s not going to stop and think about the screen or French door in front of him. A gust of wind could cause it to slam or, if it’s strong enough, knock it off its hinges.

With Clear View invisible screen doors, you won’t have that problem. And you can barely even tell they’re there. You can open up your doors and still have privacy. The invisible screen doors help keep airflow intact and best of all; they keep bugs and curious neighbors at bay. The invisible doors are tinted so you can see outside, but no one can see in.

These are especially pertinent in South Florida when the average temperature can reach 90-100 degrees. It’s also a nice feeling to be able to have the summer breeze travel throughout your home without having to worry about wasting the AC.

At East Coast Electric Screening, LLC, we cover a lot of ground in South Florida. We serve Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties. Give us a call today at (561)-746-2622.

Why a Retractable Power Screen is Right For You

At East Coast Electric Screenings, our number one goal is to keep your home protected from bugs and pests, while making it as airy and open as possible.

If you’re building a new home or office, then you’ve come to the right place. Our certified installers are trained to ensure your satisfaction. And the best part is that our screens are virtually indestructible. No more flimsy and fragile screens that pop out with the least bit of pressure.

When one of our screens is pushed in, it gives in to the pressure being applied to it. When that pressure is released, however, the screen will return to a taut position.

What we offer:

  • Garage doors
  • Patios, decks, verandas and lanais
  • Roman archways
  • Windows
  • French doors

Superscreen

We use Superscreen, a product with many unique benefits. It is puncture, mildew and fire resistant. It also outlasts traditional fiberglass screens, and comes with a 10-year-limited-warranty.

The advantages of electric retractable power screens

They’re designed to maximize your living space and to bring the outside, in.

Each retractable power screen is custom fitted so that it discreetly blends into your patio, garage door, veranda or balcony. All you need is a remote to open or close them. It’s that simple.

When winter comes around, you’ll be able to feel that cool Florida breeze in your home without letting in the creepy crawlies. How does it work? Motorized electric screens can be closed to allow a breeze throughout the house—but there will be a thin barrier in place to protect your home against unwelcome visitors.

During the day, the screens can be closed to reduce the amount of heat and sunlight.

If you’re looking for a nice, breezy place to call home, without the fear of bugs, give us a call at (561)-746-2622. www.eastcoastelectricscreening.com. We serve Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties.

Screening for Privacy

When we’re home alone with the window screens up, house exposed for all to see, we often do not consider expectations of privacy. We hear about parents being hesitant to let their kids stay home alone, but we often do not hear about how the adult feels. A national survey from Wakefield Research found that nearly 74 percent of business travelers say their stay-behind spouse has raised concerns about being left home alone.

If you’re not fond of being the only one home in your humble abode, rest assured there are thousands of solutions to make you feel more at ease. One excellent rule of thumb is to always lock your doors and always, always double check that you did in fact lock them. Heck, even triple check the locks. It never hurts to be safe and a little overly cautious.

Another good idea and excellent safety plan is getting to know your neighbors. If you’re lucky enough to find a neighborhood full of charming and friendly people, it’s not a bad idea to take advantage and check in with them while the rest of your family is away. A neighborhood watch program is also ideal. According to FBI reports, areas with an active Neighborhood Watch program are 43 percent less likely to experience criminal activity.

Electric window screens offer privacy and are a great way to keep cool air in and bugs and heat out. They’re great for South Florida and even better when we’re more aware of privacy within our own home. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

At East Coast Electric Screening, LLC, we cover a lot of ground in Southwest Florida. We serve Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River Counties. Give us a call today at (561)-746-2622.
